As the Code of Administrative Offenses provides for levying fines of 200 to 400 lei for the use of pyrotechnic products after 10.00 P.M., mechanisms are now being worked out to allow the use of such products on Christmas and New Year's Eve, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The fireworks will be allowed after 10.00 P.M. only on the national holidays and only in agreed places,” said Mihai Cebotaru, the head of the Interior Ministry's Public Order Division. The cases of unauthorized fireworks will be punished under article 357 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which imposes fines of 200 to 400 lei on private individuals and of 2 000 to 3 000 lei on legal entities, said Victor Cojocari, the president of the Pyrotechnicians and Armorers Employers Association of Moldova. Victor Cojocari stressed the fireworks pose an increased danger of fire, which can be removed by strictly following the instructions. He also said that the pyrotechnic products should be purchased only in specialized shops. The buyer is issued with a receipt and a guide book specifying the security measures, the restrictions and other information. The pyrotechnic products sold illegally are kept in increased humidity conditions and can thus cause accidents. There are 14 companies in Moldova that are authorized to sell pyrotechnic products. Five of them are located in Chisinau. The incorrect use of pyrotechnic products resulted in 12 accidents last year.
