The alert regarding the spread of rabies in Moldova is an attempt of some institutions to launder money. This is the reaction of the nongovernmental association for protection of animals Alga after last week the National Center for Public Health warned about an increased risk of rabies, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Alga's leader Valentina Dudnic told a press conference on Tuesday that the City Hall allotted 2.52 million lei for the extermination of stray dogs in the Chisinau Municipality. The money was used for poison, fuel and wages. “If there was any risk of rabies, there would have been serious measures, but the situation didn’t change at all. Dog meat and skins are still sold at the Central Market”, complained Valentina Dudnic.
Valentina Dudnic claims that the stray dogs issue in Chisinau is solved by a team of six equipped men. In a gray vehicle, they go to the places where they know that dogs gather and leave poisoned food there. Later, they return to collect the bodies.
“They allotted huge sums of money to kill dogs, claiming we have over 30,000 stray dogs. The situation is different, nonetheless. A couple of years ago we said there were no more than 6000 stray dogs. Today, their number should be even fewer”, said Valentina Dudnic.
The members of the nongovernmental organizations said that there were structures interested in keeping the stray dog situation out of control. Nobody cares to number the dogs and their vaccinations. The only measure took by authorities is to kill them secretly.
Alga urges people to be more tolerant and to not abandon their pets, because authorities would poison them.
