Radio station fined by broadcasting regulator

The radio station Kiss FM was fined 5,400 lei for not respecting the required quota of national music in the broadcast schedule. The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) also warned the station for not obeying the advertisement broadcasting rules. Another five radio stations were warned for violating the same provisions, IPN reports.

According to the BCC members, Kiss FM has committed such violations for years. Thus, the highest fine possible was imposed on it. “We have faced such a problem for several years. They never broadcast enough national music. We every time explain to them and reach a compromise, but everything repeats,” said Council member Dinu Ciocan. The radio station was also warned for broadcasting a song with offensive words.

The other radio stations that received public warnings had a national music quota of 20 to 28%, but the required percentage is at least 30%. Representatives of the stations assured that the faults will be removed.

The BCC imposes increasing punishments on the broadcasters that break the legal norms, namely public warning, fine, ban on broadcasting advertisements for a particular period, suspension of the broadcast license for a particular period, and withdrawal of license.
