The torrential rain and hail of May 15 and 16 caused damage of hundreds of thousands of lei in a number of Moldovan settlements. Dorina Cruc, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that dozens of hectares of crops, houses and cellars were flooded on Saturday, May 15. The damage caused on Sunday is being assessed. About 130 hectares of crops were flooded in Valea-Trestieni, Luminita, Soltanesti and Varzaresti. There were inundated 17 houses, three cellars and a number of wells. Domestic fowls were killed. The damages was estimated at over 500,000 lei. Two private houses, ten cellars and 14 gardens were flooded in Balatina, Glodeni. Nine bridges were destroyed. Local roads were damaged in Varnita, Anenii-Noi, and Dorotcaia, Dubasari. In Chisinau, the rain damaged 15 roofs. A green acacia was downed on Serghei Lazo St, while the dry branches of a tree fell on the roof of a house located on Zelinski St. The deputy head of the Green Spaces Association Galina Leahu recommended the Chisinau residents to insure their cars and apartments situated on the upper floors. “No one can be sure that the car or the house will not be damaged by a tree that looks green,” Galina Leahu said at Monday's meeting of the City Hall.
