Rascani police chief to stand trial

The deputy head of the Rascani Police Inspectorate and head of the Inspectorate’s Criminal Police Service will be tried for professional negligence, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The police officers are accused of not taking the required measures after they were informed by phone about the disappearance of two young persons in June 2016, including to disseminate the description of the missing persons and unit of transport by which they travelled and to swiftly question eyewitnesses. The bodies of the two were later found in Rascani district.

The prosecutors completed the investigation and sent the case to court. The policemen face up to two years in jail and ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of up to five years.

Two young men from Balti went missing in June 2016. The police were alerted by the mother of one of these on June 20. The men were found dead in Rascani district several days later. The investigation was launched after a group of civic activists made the case public through social networking sites.
