The vice commissioner and the head of the Criminal Police of the Rascani Police Inspectorate were arrested on suspicion of abuse of power in the evening of June 26. These are suspected of taking no prompt action to investigate the double murder committed in the district at the beginning of last week, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, if they are found guilty, the two will serve two to six years in jail or will be fined 20,000 to 40,000 lei.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office opened an inquiry following press reports about the inaction of employees of the Rascani Police Inspectorate in the investigation into the June 19 murder of two young men from Nihoreni village of Rascani district. Four employees of this inspectorate were suspended from posts for the period of the inquiry by order of the administration of the General Police Inspectorate.

The inquiry goes on with the questioning of witnesses, under the direction of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
