Rebreanu on Classical Writers Alley at last

Liviu Rebreanu's bust was unveiled on November 27 – 124 years of the birth of the writer. The bust was placed on the Classical Writers Alley in the Public Garden “Stephan the Great” near the busts of Nichita Stanescu and Ion Luca Caragiale, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the president of the Writers Union of Moldova Mihai Cimpoi, the author of the bronze statue is one of the pupils of Constantin Brancusi, Milita Petrascu. “Liviu Rebreanu is close to our country. He wrote about a Bessarabian Ion and a brochure about Bessarabia. Apostol Bologa's drama is Bessarabians' drama as well – the drama of choosing between being faithful to a foreign country and of remaining Romanian. In the form of an eternal bronze statue, Rebreanu comes to his readers, who continue to love him,” Cimpoi said. Minister of Culture Boris Focsa said that though many people do not realize it, the unveiling of Rebreanu's bust on the Classical Writers Alley is a hope for a better future. He stressed that Moldova's spiritual integration took place long ago, when the country was recognized as a nation in Rebreanu's work. Liviu Rebreanu (November 27, 1885—September 1, 1944) was a Romanian novelist, playwright, short story writer, and journalist. His most famous novels are “Ion”, “Padurea Spanzuratilor” (“The Forest of the Hanged”) and “Ciuleandra”.
