Red-white marking appears on blackspot crossings

A new marking has appeared at the most dangerous pedestrian crossings in the country. Such new crossings are painted in red and white stripes and are anticipated in both ways by speed bumps. Deputy Transport and Roads Minister Boris Gherasim told Info-Prim Neo the new marking aims to increase the attention of those drivers who drive at high speeds even through towns and villages. The speed bumps should make them reduce their speeds and the failure to do so may project the vehicle sideways or even make it turn over. According to the deputy minister, the cost of installing such crossings are higher, but the effect is also greater. “The crossings are located at the so-called blackspots, where traffic accidents are frequent”. About 90 such crossings are to be installed this year. One such crossing has already been set up on the Orhei-Rezina road, at the junction which the locals colloquially know as “cemetery number six” and which historically saw at least five deaths a year. With the new crossing installed, no accidents have occurred here.
