Renasterii Blvd. will be renamed Grigore Vieru

Chisinau’s Renasterii Boulevard will be renamed Grigore Vieru Boulevard in memory of the late poet. Such a decision was passed by the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) on Thursday. After long debates, 18 councilors of 34 accepted councilor Oleg Cernei’s proposal to replace the Monument to the Komsomol Heroes with a monument to Grigore Vieru, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Monument to Komsomol Heroes must be moved to the territory of the Exhibitions Center “Moldexpo” where there is also the monument to Lenin. A monument to the poet should be placed on Grigore Vieru Blvd.,” said Oleg Cernei, who is a member of the faction of the Moldova Noastra Alliance. In order to commemorate other famous persons, the acting mayor of Chisinau Vlad Cotet proposed setting up commemorative plaques for Vasile Procopisin, Nicolae Corlateanu, Mihai Dolgan, Steliana Grama and Nicolae Garbalau. The commemorative plaque for Mihai Dolgan will be made from public money, while the other plaques – from the money of the applicants. At the same meeting, Vlad Cotet suggested conferring the title of Citizen of Honor of Chisinau on writer Dumitru Matcovschi and linguist Valentin Mandacanu. The proposals will be examined at the next meetings of the CMC.
