Repair of Parliament and Presidential Office will finish in March next year
The reconstruction of the Parliament and the Residential Office will be completed in March 2010. 30% of the works have been carried out so far, Minister of Construction and Regional Development Marcel Raducan said at the meeting of the Government on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The official said they will make everything possible to reduce the costs of the works. The assembly halls will be refurbished according to the initial project, while the offices of the MPs and other state functionaries will be more modest.
Raducan said that the auctions by which the contractor building companies were selected were held without violations.
He did not say how much money is needed to complete the works, specifying there is no general project as projects are worked out for every stage of the works separately. He explained that the works were to be started immediately and there was no time to draw up a general project.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that the reconstruction works must meet certain standards, but luxury in the present situation is unacceptable. He asked that the building materials be used more efficiently, stressing the necessity of strictly monitoring the procurement of materials and contracting of works.
