Rescue pilot-project will be launched in Cahul

At Cahul, a fully integrated rescue pilot-project will be launched, based on the SMURD model, which will include medical and emergency assistance. The implementation of the project was discussed at a meeting held by Andrei Năstase, Minister of Interior of the Republic of Moldova, with Raed Arafat, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania.

During the meeting, it was established that Moldova's aviation capacity will be developed based on the SMURD model, in order to respond to emergencies. Additionally, a concrete plan was created for the modernization of emergency reception units in Chisinau and Balti.

The Romanian Secretary of State said that the SMURD 2 project will be implemented in Moldova, which involves increasing the capacity for vehicle extrication interventions, as well as procuring new ambulances.

The Romanian official added that cross-border interventions of Moldovan and Romanian rescue units are being considered. "If the firemen in the Republic of Moldova are closer to an emergency situation in Romania, then they should intervene and vice versa", said Raed Arafat. He mentioned that a protocol that allows cross-border action is already signed.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova said that the emergency inspectorates protocol between the two countries could be the first real step of integration. If this project succeeds as an integration model, other economic, energetic and media integration projects will be launched.

Andrei Năstase said that the bilateral collaboration proves that the current government wants to integrate with the European and Romanian structures.
