The number of rescue and firefighting operations goes up. The number of operations performed so far this year is four times higher 20 years ago. The missions are also more complex. The rescuers and firefighters of the Republic of Moldova are now able to conduct over 30 types of operations, as opposed to only four types 30 years ago. An event to celebrate the Rescuer’s Day was held at the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations today. It started with a religious ceremony to commemorate the heroes who died in the line of duty and continued with the conferring of awards on the bravest rescuers and firefighters, IPN reports.
Secretary general of the Ministry of Home Affairs Sergey Diaconu wished the rescuers and firefighters success in their missions. “The rescuers and firefighters are those who intervene in the most difficult situations, when our lives are in danger. You deserve respect and gratitude as, regardless of the situation, you come to save lives,” stated the official.
The chief of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Alexandru Oprea said the whole community of rescuers and firefighters of the Republic of Moldova continues to daily show courage and devotion. “The intense technological development, climate change, regional conflicts are reasons for which the rescuers and firefighters should cope with the challenges by responding promptly and professionally. It is therefore important to extend partnerships at international level, active participation within the EU Civil Protection Mechanism that would offer new development and operational capability enhancement prospects,” noted Alexandru Oprea.
The professional day of rescuers and firefighters is celebrated in all the local units of the Inspectorate, which stage the Doors Open Day.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations has about 2,400 employees.
