The rescuers yesterday and last night towed away 19 cars that got stuck on snowy roads. Snowdrifts appeared on roads owing to the high winds.
Head of the operational service of the State Road Administration Sergiu Capatana has told IPN that all the roads managed by the Administration were passable and accessible to all the units of transport in the morning of March 1. The dangerous sectors are monitored and assistance is provided if necessary. If the vehicle is outfitted appropriately, problems in traffic are not encountered.
The General Inspectorate for Emergencies said rescuers were called out near the Vulcanesti –Vinogradovca customs post in ATU Gagauzia, where 12 cars and two trucks needed to be towed away. The rescuers also intervened on roads in Comrat, Cimislia and Falesti.
The Border Police said the hovercraft border crossing points Soroca-Tsekinovka and Cosauti-Iampoli remain closed owing to the ice bridges that formed on the Nistru. The travellers are recommended to use the neighboring post Otaci-Moghileov-Podolsk.
Three school bus routes were suspended in the morning because of the snowy roads. As a result, 107 students could not get to classes in the districts of Calarasi, Orhei and Stefan Voda.
Weather forecasters issued a yellow code advisory for strong winds for the period until 6pm on March 1. The northwestern wind is expected to intensify to 15-20 meters per second. The yellow code warning for cold weather is valid until 6pm on March 2. During the next few days, daytime temperatures will oscillate between -7 and -13 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures between -15 and -20 degrees Celsius. On the weekend, it will grow slightly warmer.
