Reserve “Lower Prut” to be created in Prut meadow

The Cabinet approved the decision to set up the reserve “Lower Prut” within the EU-funded Romania – Ukraine - Republic of Moldova project, IPN reports.

The reserve will be situated in the meadow of the Prut and will be over 14,700 hectares in area. It will cover nine settlements of Cahul district: Crihana Veche, Manta, Vadul lui Isac, Colibasi, Branza, Valeni, Slobozia Mare, Caslita-Prut, and Giurgiulesti (village), including 824 hectares of forest.

Minister of Environment Valeriu Munteanu said the goal is to diminish the biodiversity losses in this area, to reduce gas emissions and to attract foreign investment so as to contribute to increasing the tourist attractiveness and, consequently, to better living conditions.

The document is to be examined and adopted by Parliament.
