Resignation tendered by Alexandr Esaulenco accepted by Parliament

The MPs accepted the resignation from the post of director of the Security and Intelligence Service tendered by Alexandr Esaulenco. A draft decision to this effect was adopted in the June 2 sitting of Parliament, IPN reports

Alexandr Esaulenco submitted the resignation on May 30, arguing he intends to take up another job.

In accordance with the law on the Security and Intelligence Service, the director of the Service is appointed by Parliament at the suggestion of the President for a five-year term.

It was earlier reported that Alexandru Musteața, a member of the current Central Election Commission, is to be named SIS director today instead of Esaulenco at the suggestion of the parliamentary majority.
