Restrictions to be introduced on drug ads

Advertising for medicines, para-pharmaceutical products and other medical products will be forbidden, except for advertising in manufacturing places and stores and in publications destined for medical and pharmaceutical professionals. The Government today approved amendments to this effect to the relevant legislation, Info-Prim Neo reports. The proposed amendments also prohibit advertising medical treatments that require a medical prescription. Ads of medical treatments that don't require prescription shall include the recommendation to see a doctor or pharmacist in case of adverse effects. On TV, ads shall display the number of the license for 5 seconds or longer. It will be prohibited to use doctor or professor characters in ads promoting medical treatments. Health Minister Andrei Usatii said the adoption of this amendments, which represent a legislative initiative of Democrat MP Oleg Tulea, will ensure an adequate medical treatment prescribed by qualified professionals and will ensure that patients get safe and adequate drugs. Usatii also noted that in the last 10 years the consumption of medicines in Moldova rose almost three times to $32 per capita.
