The number of subscribers to pay TV and the revenues earned from this service in the first quarter of 2016 decreased. According to the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology, the number of subscribers fell by 3,400 (-1.3%) to 271,800, while the sales declined by 939,000 -2.1% to 37.5 million. The revenues in the audiovisual sector came to 66 million lei, a decrease of 14.6 million lei (-15.3%), IPN reports.
According to the data presented to the Agency by the 92 active pay TV providers, the number of subscribers connected to the given service through cable fell by 5,600 (-2.7%) to 200,900, while the number of subscribers to IP TV rose by 2,200 (+3.2%) to 70,900. As a result, the pay TV penetration rate per 100 people decreased to 7.6%.
The same data show that 73.9% of the subscribers use cable TV, while 26.1% - IP TV. Of the total number of subscribers, 59.3% received the TV signal in analogue format, while 40.7% – in digital format.
The largest pay TV providers are SA “Moldtelecom”, with a market share of 30.1%, SRL “Sun Communications” – 27.3%, and SRL “TV BOX” – 7.7%. The cumulative market share of the other 89 providers is 34.9%.
