Right to Know Day to be marked on November 28

The Center “Acces-Info” in cooperation with a number of nongovernmental organizations and the public authorities organize the sixth edition of the Right to Know Days themed “An Active Person is an Informed Person, an Non-Informed Person is easily Manipulated” between September 28 and October 3, 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the organizers, the aim of the Right to Know Days is to inform the population about the rights and methods of asking for official information and of appealing to court, to warn the public authorities that the right to information and the freedom of expression should be guaranteed, and to actively engage the people in decision making. Thr NGOs and the public authorities are urged to get involved in organizing the Right to Know Days through activities aimed at promoting the free access to information and transparency in decision making. According to the Center “Acces-Info”, September 28 was proclaimed the Right to Know Day in 2002 at a forum of NGOs in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. During seven years, the day has been observed by representatives of the civil society from about 60 countries.
