The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, together with supervising engineers of the consortium WSP Techinc and the contractor OHL, thought up a plan of measures to increase the pace and finish the works to build the road that bypasses Ungheni town until October 2017, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry says a date when representatives of the Ministry, the EU Delegation and civil society will make a field trip to initiate public monitoring over the project that is financed with a EU grant will be announced at the end of the first quarter.
The building of the road that bypasses Ungheni, which forms part of the R1 Chisinau – Ungheni –Sculeni - road, will help reduce the number of large vehicles that now travel through the town and increase road safety in the area. The distance between Chisinau and Iasi will decrease by 24 km. This will lead to lower costs for the users of the road.
The grant provided by the EU for building the road exceeds €10 million.
