Romania will assist the Republic of Moldova to join the European scientific community – the Seventh Framework Program (FP7) of the European Union. The Moldovan and Romanian scientists will cooperate through 24 Moldovan-Romanian projects on the basis of an agreement that was signed by the parties on July 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. The 24 joint projects will be implemented by 400 researchers from Moldova and Romania in such areas as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and others. They will last by two years and will be jointly financed by the parties – 250,000 Moldovan lei and 250,000 Romanian lei for each project. In a news conference on Thursday, Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca said these projects are aimed at modernizing the two countries and ensuring the scientific ideas’ access to the European and world markets. Gheorghe Duca, the president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, said Romania can help Moldova join FP7 so that it can access the European funds intended for research and innovation. He also said the Academy would welcome Moldovan-Romanian projects in humanities, especially in history, in order to do away with the speculations about the history and ties between the two states. Duca proposed creating a regional flood prevention center in the Prut area that would involve experts from Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. Marius Lazurca said he will familiarize the competent Romanian authorities with this proposal. The Romanian Academy includes 21 Moldovan scientists, while the Academy of Sciences of Moldova has 27 members of honor from Romania.
