Romania will invest €15 million in environment protection and climate change projects in Moldova. This money forms part of the €100 million in non-reimbursable assistance promised by the Government of Romania in 2010. The protocol on the provision of the €15 million was signed by representatives of the environment ministries of the two countries in Chisinau on December 10, IPN reports.
Romanian Ambassador Marius Lazurca said that this financial assistance will enable to develop a partnership relationship and will contribute to improving the Moldovan-Romanian relations in environment protection and climate change.
“Today’s action shows once again the openness and opportunities offered by Romania as an EU member state in the European integration process, on condition that the environment standards and requirements are met,” said Minister of the Environment of Moldova Gheorghe Salaru.
He added that the money will be used to promote different climate change projects, projects aimed at reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and other projects that are yet to be assessed.
The protocol was signed during the third meeting of the Joint Commission on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding in the field of environment protection between the two ministries.
