Romanian and Spanish motifs in Polish posters exhibited in Chisinau

Fifty-eight posters from the collection of the Polish Cultural Institute in Bucharest have been displayed at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova. The exhibition includes two types of posters – with Romanian motifs and with Spanish motifs, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Polish posters with Romanian motifs point to the presence of the Romanian culture in Polish society through movies. The selected posters show Romanian movies screened in Poland between 1960 and the start of the 1980s. The visitors can admire a series of creations dedicated to Romanian movies that were shown in Polish theaters, including famous pictures directed by Liviu Ciulei, Dan Pita, Mircea Veroiu, Sergiu Nicolaescu, and others. The posters with Spanish motifs were created in the years of successive metamorphoses of the contemporary art of the second half of the 20th century. They all advertise such cultural events as theater performances, movies, exhibitions and even the opening of a Spanish bookshop. The poster art is considered an authentic and specific Polish art. The Polish painters and graphic artists developed it into a school of Polish poster. The first Poster Museum in the world was opened in Warsaw in 1966, while the first International Biennial Poster Exhibition was held at Zacheta Gallery in 1968. The exhibit at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova was organized with support from the Polish Embassy in Chisinau and the Polish Cultural Institute in Bucharest. It will continue until March 27.
