Romanians urged to stay at home
The Romanians are advised not to travel to Moldova after the Moldovan authorities introduced a visa regime with Romania on April 9.
From this morning, the passengers in Romania are transported to Moldova only by the buses and minibuses that came to Romania yesterday according to the timetable, the head of the Filaret Bus Terminal in Bucharest Octavian Pescaru has told Info-Prim Neo.
“No tickets were returned because no ticket was purchased in advance. Now, the people also do not buy tickets in advance and we urge them to stay at home. Where should they apply for visas? Nothing is clear,” Pescaru said.
Only the passengers that have Moldovan passports leave Bucharest for Chisinau. The minibus that sets off at 9.00 had only 11 passengers, while those that depart at 10.00 and 11.00 went empty. A new Bucharest-Chisinau route is planed for 20.00.
The buses and minibuses that leave for Romania from the South Bus Terminal in Chisinau work according to the timetable, the terminal’s administrator Silvia Shirabokov stated for Info-Prim Neo.
The Romanian citizens cannot use the trains traveling to Moldova either. On April 8, the international train “Friendship” traveling from North Bucharest to Chisinau and back was canceled for the period of April 8-10 owing to technical glitches, as the Moldovan railway authorities said.
The Iasi-Ungehni and Ungheni-Iasi passenger trains also do not work from April 8 as a switch at the Ungheni station in Moldova is non-functional. The trains will not work until the fault is fixed.
Moldova introduced the visa regime with Romania following the protests held in Chisinau on April 6 and 7. The decision was taken at a Government meeting attended by President Vladimir Voronin on April. The decision is aimed at defending the state of law and restoring the legality, the informative note to the decision says.
On the same day, the Ambassador of Romania in Chisinau Filip Teodorescu and the Romanian Embassy’s minister-consultant Ioan Gaborean were declared persona non grata and obliged to leave Moldova within 24 hours.
