Russian citizens arrested for passing counterfeit money
A group of Russian citizens, members of an anticorruption organization, were arrested for passing counterfeit Ukrainian hrivnas and Moldovan lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vitalie Briceag, officer of the Fraud Investigation Department at the Ministry of the Interior, told a press conference on Tuesday that the counterfeit papers were 200 and 500 lei banknotes. The 5 men were held in the Bryansk-Suhinichi train, where they exchanged counterfeit money. “They preferred to work at night, as passengers didn’t see the signs on banknotes because of the weak light”, Briceag stated. He said 86,000 lei were recovered as a result of the search. Briceag added that the biggest sum the scammers exchanged was 13,000 euros.
The suspects are prosecuted for fraud and counterfeiting banknotes. The Ministry of the Interior asks all the victims that got false money to call the police at 902.
