Russia’s imperial tricolor declared extremist in Moldova

The imperial flag of Russia, with three horizontal stripes of white, yellow and black, was declared extremist in Moldova by the Chisinau/Center Court.

The ruling satisfies a request to this end by the acting Prosecutor General. The decision can be challenged at the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

The black-yellow-white tricolor was the national flag of the Russian Empire from 1858 to 1896, during the reign of Alexander II. It is currently promoted by the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin as a symbol of the “New Russia”. In 2014, the flag was flown in Donetsk and Luhansk by the Russian occupation army, and some military units continue to use.
