Safer crosswalks will be set up near schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other social facilities. The State Road Administration said that it designed two types of crosswalks in coordination with the National Public Security Inspectorate, IPN reports.
The crosswalks will be built by local companies “Drumuri” SA in areas where there is a high flow of pedestrians or near educational institutions. These will be of two types of crosswalks – standard zebra crossing and raised zebra crossing.
“The estimated cost of a simple pedestrian crossing with signs and road markings (white-red) is about 36,000 lei, while of a raised zebra crossing is 80,000 lei,” the State Road Administration noted in a press release. The main objective of the project is to make the drivers reduce speed to down to 30 km/h.
The schemes designed by the State Road Administration could also be used by local public authorities to set up pedestrian crossings on communal roads and local streets. The necessary amounts will be allocated from the Road Fund.
