Salaries of judges cannot be raised with donors’ money, Vlad Filat
Prime Minister Vlad Filat considers that it is impossible to pay salaries to judges from the funds offered by foreign donors, but their pays can be increased after identifying internal resources for the purpose. The Premier made related statements to the press after President Nicolae Timofti, in a meeting of the Supreme Security Council, said that raising judges’ salaries is one of the solutions for combating corruption, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vlad Filat said that these resources can be obtained by optimizing things in the state administration. “We can use the saved money to increase the salaries of those working in the legal system,” he stated.
After the same meeting, Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said the head of state’s proposal is opportune. “We will not be the first. There are former candidates for accession to the EU that used the same method. If we want to combat corruption, we must consider increasing salaries,” he said.
Nicolae Timofti told the journalists that he discussed this issue with the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel, who made it clear that there are mechanisms by which certain sums of money can be offered for supporting justice.
The first meeting of the Supreme Security Council in its new composition was held today, June 5.
