Satiricus- I.L.Caragiale Theater in Chisinau opened on Friday, October 1, its 20th season. The event was marked by the opening of Val Butnaru's show “Who do I vote for?”, an adaptation to Moldovan politics of I.L Caragiale's “A lost letter”. Besides, theater critic Dina Hascu-Ghimpu released her new book “Born under the Sign of Caragiale”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The author hopes her book will be helpful to many professionals. “I think it's a step forward, as we have very few theater critics and, subsequently, few reviews are written. That's why each new release is a joy for actors, directors, designers and musicians”, she said. When speaking about book's title, she referred to Caragiale's birthday. “When was Caragiale born? Under the same sign has been born director Sandu Grecu and nearly half of the troupe. Being born under the Sign of Caragiale means being spirited, humorous, being able to see things detachedly and with wit”, she said.
“This book tries to analyze the artistic creation of Satiricus Theater. It contains biographies, interviews with great actors of our theater and analyses of its activity over years”, said Sandu Grecu. “Besides, it has a very interesting series of dialogues with our actors. It should be quite intriguing as we have valuable actors that must be noticed and known”, he added.
“I must mention we're perhaps the only theater, at least in Europe, that is publishing books about actors. We already have 14 tomes. The 15th will be released in December and will be about our whole activity beginning 20 years ago. In 2011, we plan to publish a book about our great actor Sergiu Finiti”, Grecu said.
Sandu Grecu, while discussing about the show, said his troupe would continue the tradition of “telling our thoughts straight and monitoring the Moldovan politics”.
The play “Who do I vote for?” was directed by Sandu Grecu and has a great cast, including theater's best actors: Vitalie Tapu asks who he should vote for, Valeriu Cazacu is Nae Catavencu, while Mihai Curagau, Jan Cucuruzac, Viorel Cornescu, Irina Rusu, Vasile Casu, Lilia Cazacu, Nina Toderico, Valeriu Turcanu, Ludmila Gheorghita, Valentin Delinschi, Igor Mitreanu, Arcadie Racilă, Ion Grosu, Petru Bouros, Eugen Matcovschi, Ion Coseru, Elena Oleinic and Mihai Ciolac also perform in the show. Ion Crasnopolschi has selected the soundtrack, Rodica Bargan the costumes and Tudor Cibotar the video images.
Today, October 2, at 5 PM, there is another opening at Satiricus: Constantin Cheianu's “What should we do with grandpa?”, directed by Sandu Grecu.
The 2010-2011 season includes 25 plays.
