Science Academy President: irreversible steps made to give science role of driving force in developing society
Sure and irreversible steps have been made to give the science the role of a driving force in the society’s development, based on cognition, the last years. The statement was made on Thursday, October 30, by the president of the Moldovan Science Academy (ASM), Gheorghe Duca, at a news conference at the end of the four-year mandate of the 8th ASM Assembly, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The academician added that the last four years, optimization of the scientific institutions has been managed from 101 to 38, and this excluded parallelism in research and reduced expenditures for its keeping.
The science financing is 6 times more, and this has brought to creating better working conditions for researchers, to renewing the existing laboratories and opening new ones, to increasing researchers’ salaries. Consequently, the flow of young people who want to devote themselves to research has grown. At present, in institutions preparing master’s degree activities, there are 1,652 of such trainers, Gheorghe Duca has said.
The ASM president says that, for the first time, they managed to attract finances from international funds, as well as to finance project-based researches. In the period from 2005 to 2007, 76 budget-financed projects worth 12.8 million lei have been carried out, and this year 19 technological projects will be finished, being financed from the state budget with 4.8 million lei and co-financed by companies with 3.3 million lei.
