SCM puts off again examination of resignation tendered by judge trying Shor case

The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) postponed again the examination of the resignation handed over by judge Nina Veleva, of the Cahul Appeals Court. The judge forms part of the panel of judges who are trying the Shor case, IPN reports.

The resignation was the first item on the agenda of the January 19 meeting of the SCM.

SCM member Carolina Ciugureanu-Mihailuță said no one challenges the judge’s right to resign, but this is a delicate case that is controversial in parts. Therefore, they insisted on the obtaining of additional information from the judge concerning the Shor case. The report asked on December 22 was presented only on January 18, in the second half of the day. Respectively, the SCM members didn’t manage to examine it. They wanted to be furnished with all the arguments before voting for this honorable resignation.

Member Elena Belei said she didn’t manage to study all the presented 222 pages and was therefore in favor of the postponement.

The proposal to put off the examination of the issue until the next meeting of the SCM was supported unanimously.

The resignation tendered by Nina Veleva has been on the agenda of the SCM’s meetings since the start of last December. The first meetings where the issue was to be discussed didn’t take place because a quorum was not present. Later, the issue was put off at the request of Elena Belei. The SCM members asked for a report on the activity of the Cahul Appeals Court and the trying of the Shor case from the judicial inspectorate.
