Sea of flowers for Great Vieru – UPDATE 3

[Adds par. 1, replaces par 2, 3] The funeral procession carrying the coffin of Grigore Vieru didn't stop at the monument to Stephen the Great as previously planned. After a brief stop at the intersection of the streets Banulescu Bodoni and 31 August, the coffin was loaded to a hearse which will proceed to the Central Cemetery. [1:15 PM] The police cut a corridor through the crowds to allow the coffin of Grigore Vieru to be brought out so that the funeral procession may head for the Central Cemetery. [12:59 PM] A funeral liturgy conducted by a body of Moldovan and Romanian priests started at the National Opera Theater, which hosts the coffin of Grigore Vieru, as people are continuing to come to bid farewell to the poet and lay flowers at the coffin. Crowds are asked to keep noise levels low and follow police instructions. The police still allow people to enter the National Opera Theater, but the access to the venue will be closed soon. The decision belongs to the poet's family. According to Christian rituals, the burial should be over before dusk. All those who haven managed to bid farewell to the poet may still do so at the Central Cemetery on Armeneasca street. The funeral procession will follow Stefan cel Mare avenue, G. Banulescu Bodoni str. and then A. Mateevici str. to head for the cemetery. A short stop will be made at Stefan cel Mare's monument, said deputy premier Victor Stepaniuc. The National Opera Square in Chisinau can hardly offer enough room to all the people willing to attend poet Grigore Vieru's funerals. His last way will be scattered with flowers, Info-Prim Neo reports. Elderly and young, politicians and children with “Albinuta” in their hands (a primer written by the poet) bring flowers to the him. Last homages have been paid by Moldovan Presidents Mircea Snegur, Petru Lucinschi and Vladimir Voronin. The present head of state and his spouse brought a wreath of red carnations. Mr. Voronin expressed his condolences to the poet's family. Wreaths have been brought by the Cabinet and the officials from the Chisinau City. A delegation from Romania led by minister of culture and cults Theodor Paleologu came to Chisinau to express the condolences of Romania's President Traian Basescu and Premier Emil Boc. Master Nicolae Botgros, a good friend of Grigore Vieru, was playing his violin accompanied by Lautarii orchestra in the balcony of the Opera Theater, in the memory of the poet. Ordinary people keep coming to mourn Grigore Vieru's death. The coffin will stay in the Opera Theater till 13.00, one hour more than planned, said Mihail Pop, the head of the Government's Chancellery. Recorded poems by Grigore Vieru keep sounding from loudspeakers, among them: “I have nothing against you, Death / I don't even hate you...”
