Two men from Chisinau are investigated by the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) in a case of influence peddling. They are suspected of asking for €2,600 in exchange for providing concessions in the customs clearance of a car brought into the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
According to the NAC, the suspects claimed to have influence over employees of the Leuşeni Customs Post and that they can persuade them to clear the car registered in Germany, with the application of an exemption of 70% of the excise duty. During the criminal investigation, it was established that the informer transmitted €2,600 to the suspects and, after a while, because he didn’t obtain the desired result, the men returned a part of the money.
The NAC and prosecutors searched the homes and cars of the suspects from where they seized electronic devices, money and other objects that are to be examined.
The two persons weren’t remanded in custody.
