Ceramics and paintings were amalgamated at an exhibition set up by two Moldovan plastic artists at the exhibitions center “Constantin Brancusi”. Two friends, ceramist Nicolae Cotofan and painter Vasile Naşcu, decided to merge their works as ten years ago, when they staged a similar exhibition in the same place, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The two artists exhibited an equal number of pots, vases and plates made of clay and paintings representing statistic nature in bright as well as dark colors. They said they decided to set up a new exhibition because they love each other's work.
'The painting and clay have always formed an interesting symbiosis. We are friends and we have similar characters,” Vasile Nascu said at the opening. The painter added that for the exhibition he chose the best works that form part of the series “Altar to Faith” dedicated to churches.
Remembering the joint exhibition set up 10 years ago, Nicolae Cotofan said that since then they both have improved their skills, but the combination of ceramics and paintings remained as attractive as at the beginning. “The years do not affect the beautiful,” the ceramist stressed, adding that he wants to make a history of pots so that it remains a monument.
Plastic artist Gheorghe Munteanu said the two artists have great potential and energy that is transposed into their works. Vasile Nascu loves the earth, the nature and his works are lyrical, delicate and poetical, while Nicolae Cotofan loves the people and the traditions, Munteanu said.
The desire to work, the optimism and the attitude towards their works connects the two artists, said Ghenadie Jalba, the president of the Union of Plastic Artists. “This time the exhibition is special as both of them turn 70 this autumn,” he said.
Tudor Braga, the head of the exhibitions center “Constantin Brancusi” said Vasile Nascu promotes a real, metaphysical painting and maintains an uninterrupted dialogue with the nature, while Nicolae Cotofan is a wonderful man who designs his works according to Japanese standards, while the classical image is made according to German and English standards and he is very devoted to the place where he comes from.
The exhibition includes 83 items of ceramics and 83 paintings. It will be open until November 1. In 1999, Nicolae Cotofan and Vasile Nascu staged their first duo exhibition.
