Persons selling snowdrops appeared on the sides of national roads. The authorities warn that this is an illegal activity. The collection and sale of snowdrops is punished with a fine of 1,000 to 2,000 lei. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Vadim Stangaci, deputy head of the State Ecological Inspectorate, said the district inspections already imposed fines on a number of persons, especially in Orhei district. Ala Rotaru, head of the Ministry of the Environment’s Natural Resources and Biodiversity Division, said that the snowdrops were included in the Red Book. Under the Law on the Vegetal Regnum, the collection of species included in the red book is banned. The Red Book of Moldova contains 264 species that are on the verge of extinction,118 of which are plants.
