Services that allows crossing border with contraband cigarettes will be penalized
After the investigation into the border shooting incident is completed, the Moldovan services that allowed crossing the border with contraband cigarettes will be punished in accordance with the law, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said Monday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
He also said he believes that the Romanian border police reacted inappropriately as the life of a person must be a priority. He voiced hope that the young man will recover. The fact that he was hurt does not absolve him from responsibility. He will have to answer for what he did, if his guilt is proven.
A Moldovan citizen was wounded on January 15, when he presented himself at the Galati border crossing point. He refused to go through all the formalities as he had contraband cigarettes in his car and tried to return to Moldova. A policeman opened fire when he did not want to stop.
Afterward, representatives of the Moldovan authorities informed the press that the young man was taken to the hospital with a serious gun wound. The man’s state is grave, but stable.
