Seven public associations of veterans expressed their support for the proposal to modify the electoral system and introduce the uninominal voting system.
In a press briefing at IPN, Victor Sprincean, who spoke in the name of the members of the seven associations, said the uninominal voting system will offer greater personalization to the vote. The voters will choose between nominal candidates, not between party lists that are compiled without their involvement and that contain many unknown persons.
“The direct vote for a candidate or another will generate a parliamentary majority that will ensure political stability. We support this initiative because someone else will choose if we do not become involved and these choices are not always for the benefit of the ordinary people,” stated Victor Sprincean.
The veteran referred to the actions taken in concert with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, which they described as welcome for the whole community of veterans. In this connection, Victor Sprincean mentioned the approval of the plan of action “Memory. Honor. Respect”, which is designed to build confidence and improve the social and legal protection of veterans who took part in the war in Afghanistan and in the war for defending the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova.
In connection with the National Flag Day that is celebrated on April 27, the veterans honored the flag as a sign of sovereignty, saying by the tricolor the veterans commemorate the comrades killed in battle and represent those who protect the independence and sovereignty of the country.
The seven veterans organizations called on their colleagues and sympathizers to take part, together with the public institutions, in the alleviation of the consequences of the natural disaster that struck Moldova recently.
The position was stated by the public associations: Veterans Union “Saint George the Conqueror”, National Union of Veterans of the War for Moldova’s Independence, Federation of Police Veterans and Reservists, Association of Veterans and Pensioners of the Ministry of the Interior, Association “League of Knights of Stephan the Great Order, Union of Veterans of the Afghanistan War of Chisinau municipality and Association “Devotion to the Motherland”.
