Shelters for homeless persons crowded
The night center for the homeless situated on Haltei St in Chisinau was jam-packed last night. In order to accommodate all those who came themselves or were brought, the Center’s administration had to improvise additional sleeping places. Some of the persons slept on the floor.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the Center’s vice director Georgeta Bitca said all the 70 beds were occupied. Additional places were improvised for the 15 persons brought by the police or by ambulances.
The Center for Vagrants of the General Police Commissar was also crowded. The Center’s head Igor Calugar said that the 56 places available were filled by people taken from the street. Six-seven homeless persons, who often stay there for the night, come by themselves.
According to the State Hydrometeorology Service, the lowest temperature on the night of February 1, of minus 23 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Briceni and Soroca. In Chisinau, it was minus 20 degrees Celsius. The severe frost will persist the coming days.
