The Chisinau Municipal Council on November 27 approved Silviu Musuc' candidacy for the post of deputy police commissioner of Chisinau and head of the municipal police. Silviu Musuc was fielded by Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca, Info-Prim Neo reports. The mayor expressed his confidence that after Silviu Musuc takes over, the situation in the municipal police will normalize.”Profiting from the imperfect legislation on the work of the police, under which the police is subordinate to both the Ministry of the Interior and the local authorities, the previous administration of the General Police Commissariat acted to the detriment of the Chisinau residents during the last two years,” Chirtoaca said, adding that the police should be subordinate only to the local administration. Before the councilors started to vote on the candidate for deputy police commissioner, Dorin Chirtoaca stressed that Silviu Musuc is not related to the former councilor Eduard Musuc. Silviu Musuc has told Info-Prim Neo that he will soon present a report on the situation in the municipal police and solutions for improving its work to the Municipal Council. From 2008, Silviu Musuc had been head of the Chisinau Emergencies Division. Earlier, he worked as inspector in the municipal police (1989 – 2002), deputy commissioner on public order in Rascani district of Chisinau (2002 – 2006), and head of the Prevention Division of the Ministry of the Interior (2006 – 2008). The deputy police commissioner of Chisinau and head of the municipal police is responsible for public order in the municipality and manages the public order divisions of the district police commissariats, the regiment “Scut” and the Traffic Police Division. The head of the municipal police is named by the Ministry of the Interior at the proposal of the Chisinau Municipal Council.
