SIS prevents presupposed terrorist group from entering Moldova

The Security and Information Service (SIS) has foiled at attempt by a group of foreign citizens, native of Russia and Tajikistan, to cross Moldova’s territory while heading for Syria. The given group was deported from Turkey on suspicion that it helped international terrorist organizations, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the SIS, during the special investigation measures, there were identified a number of elements that were common to the foreigners who intended to leave for regions with armed conflicts and to join international terrorist organizations. There were found military camouflage for detachments with special duties, technical devices for ensuring the use of communication means during long periods of time and a batch of religious books used by international extremist groups to recruit young people. Furthermore, there were seized private notepads showing that the persons went through an intense process of radicalization in the Islamic madrassas in the Middle East.

In accordance with the procedures used in similar cases and given the major risk posed to the national security, the persons were banned from entering Moldova.
