Six applicants for post of prosecutor general

Six contenders filed applicants to fill the post of prosecutor general. The deadline for applications was October 25. The contest involves the deputy prosecutor generals Igor Serbinov and Iurii Garaba, acting prosecutor general Eduard Harunjen, head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari, prosecutor of Chisinau municipality Igor Popa, and prosecutor of Ciocana Prosecutor’s Office Ruslan Casu.

Contacted by IPN, chairman of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors Mircea Rosioru said the Council will come together for a meeting on October 27 to examine the applicants. The accepted applicants will be tested on the polygraph. On October 28, there will be published candidates’ CVs and their strategic programs for developing the prosecution service so that civil society could pronounce on the candidates within ten working days. Other stages of the contest will then follow.

In February 2016, Parliament accepted the resignation of Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin. The post has been held on an interim basis by Eduard Harunjen.
