The stable population of Moldova on January 1, 2010 was 3.563,7 million, down 3,800 from January 1, 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the National Bureau of Statistics. The people living in rural areas totaled 2.087,0 million or 58.6%, while those from urban areas - 1.476,7 million or 41.4%. The women constituted 51.9% (1.850,2m), while the men – 48.1% (1.713,5m). The persons of working age made up 66.5% of the population, the children – 18.2%, while the elderly people – 15.3%. On January 1, 2010, in Moldova there were 17,118 women aged over 85, in contrast to only 7,477 men.
