Six new cases of pandemic flu confirmed in one day

Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the A(H1N1) influenza virus in six more persons on Sunday, November 1. Nineteen cases of pandemic flu had been confirmed in Moldova by Saturday, 17.00. Blood samples from 12 patients were being tested. The virus was detected in six cases of these. All the infected persons, including a child aged half a year and two teens, have recently returned from Italy and Russia. They are now receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorba” . Their condition is satisfactory. Twenty-six cases of pandemic flu have been confirmed in Moldova so far. One man aged 50 has died. The neighboring country Ukraine reported 39 deaths from the A(H1N1) flu virus. In Romania, 40 third- and fourth-year law students from 31 European countries who participated in an international congress in Sinaia have been diagnosed with swine flu.
