Sixteen politically repressed persons who were rehabilitated will receive compensations for the confiscated property. For the purpose, the Ministry of Finance will transfer 2.45 million lei to the local public authorities of ten districts, IPN reports, making reference to a Government decision.

The compensations will be paid based on a law of 1992. This provides that the money will be paid within three years if the sum is lower than 200,000 lei and within five years if the sum is larger. The persons who turned 75 will get the compensation as a lump sum.

About 251,000 lei of the 2.45 million lei will be used to pay the first tranche to persons from the districts of Anenii Noi, Edinet and Criuleni for whom the compensation was set last year. The largest part of the sum, 1.93 million lei, will go to pay compensations to persons who turned 75. These are from six settlements. Another 300,000 lei will be used to pay compensations in Cahul district and Chisinau municipality.
