Smoke alarms installed in 33 houses in Calarasi

Smoke detectors or alarms were set up in 33 homes in Calarasi town within a pilot project launched by the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, in partnership with the Calarasi mayor’s office, IPN reports.

The beneficiaries were selected from among solitary elderly people and socially deprived families.

The Service’s press officer Diana Turcan said that most of the cases of death in fire are due to carbon monoxide poisoning, especially at night, while sleeping. The installation of smoke alarms in the homes will lead to a reduction in casualties.

The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service calls on the local public authorities to financially support the setting up of smoke detectors in the houses of persons who are exposed to dangers of fire.
