Soldanesti police officers suspected of taking bribe, Update

Three officers of the Soldanesti police commissariat, including the deputy commissioner of Soldanesti, were arrested on suspicion of taking bribe, Info-Prim Neo reports. “On July 22, the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office started to investigate the swindling of €1,000 for not taking legal action against a person suspected of trafficking in human beings,” prosecutor Adrian Popenco told a news conference on July 26. The three police officers are liable to five to ten years in jail or fine of 20,000 to 60,000 lei. They will be also deprived of the right to hold a particular post for two to five years. [Update] In a communique, the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime said arrest warrants of 30 days have been issued for each of the three police officers. In the same news conference, Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Babin said the Ministry of the Interior's Investigations and Security Division this year has probed 55 cases of corruption involving employees of the Ministry. Ten of the 30 legal cases started were sent to court. The police officers were suspended from posts. The Ministry is holding internal inquiries in parallel. “A number of 167 legal cases have been opened this year against employees of the Ministry of the Interior over different offenses, including 42 cases for misuse of power, 21 cases for torture, 28 cases for abuse of power,” Oleg Babin said.
