The Cahul court sentenced a soldier who shot dead a colleague of his this September to three years in prison. It found him guilty of negligent handling of firearms that resulted in the death of a person, Info-Prim Neo reports. The incident happened late in September on the territory of the Cahul-based motorized infantry brigade “Dacia”. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the victim, a corporal on guard, was injured fatally from a gun by a sentinel. He entered post No. 2 to see what the sentinel was doing. The sentinel was on the observation tower. The victim asked him to go down to discuss. He descended, but in several minutes asked the victim to immediately leave the territory of the post as they might have been seen by the guard chief and penalized. But the corporal provoked him, asking him if he would shoot if he refused to leave the post. The sentinel aimed his AKM-74 rifle loaded with 30 cartridges at him, took the safety device out and released the bolt. A shot occurred at that moment. The corpoal was injured in the thorax and died shortly in the district hospital. The convict is 18 and is from Causeni. The killed soldier was 21 and was from Stefan Voda district. He was to do two more months of military service.
