Soldier who shot dead colleague with pen gets three years

The soldier of the Independent Peacekeeping Forces Battalion No. 3, who shot dead another soldier with a pen, was sentenced to three years in prison on May 20, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office. The sentence was passed by the Chisinau Military Court, which ruled that the soldier violated the rules of using firearms. During the investigation, the soldier reached a guilt admission agreement with the prosecutor. The soldier went on sentry duty at 5pm on March 20. He received an AK 74 gun and two shells with thirty 5.45 mm caliber bullets. At that hour, the soldier was in the guards' smoking room. He coupled the cartridge to the gun without need. Another soldier approached him and put a pen in the barrel of his gun. Forgetting that he coupled the cartridge, the soldier fired the gun and injured fatally his colleague in the head. The victim died on the way to the Central Military Hospital.
