Last winter, the temperatures practically did not fall under zero degrees, it was said at an interministerial roundtable meeting that aimed to formulate Moldova's position that will be stated at the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Info-Prim Neo reports. The roundtable meeting was organized by the Ministry of the Environment with the direct support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru has told Info-Prim Neo that Moldova is not immune to climate change and thus should take steps in all the areas of activity. He said there must be created an institution that will formulate appropriate policies and worked out climate change scenarios and a national adaptation plan. UNDP Permanent Representative in Moldova Kaarina Immonen said we should react to climate change by everything we do and not take only separate actions. She also said that on December 8, the UNDP will present a yearly report on climate change in Moldova that will focus on the consequences of this phenomenon and will contain solutions. According to a report presented by Valeriu Cazacu, the head of the State Hydrometeorology Service, climate change has economic and social impacts. Moldova is exposed to food-related risks. The living conditions worsen, while the number of emigrants goes up. The report forecasts that the average temperature in winter will rise by over 5 degrees Celsius, while the precipitation in summer will decrease by about 30%. Asked by Info-Prim Neo to outline Moldova's position that will be declared at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Valeriu Cazacu said Moldova will propose making a concerted effort to reduce emissions in the atmosphere and will ask that it be offered access to different funds so as to implement a number of projects. At the Conference in Copenhagen, Moldova will be represented by Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru and the head of the State Hydrometeorology Service Valeriu Cazacu.
