SSC recommends reviewing mandatory state reserves for products

Within two weeks, the responsible authorities should compile the list of products and raw materials that are essential for the regulation of the domestic market and export. Also, the mandatory state reserves for products and raw materials are to be reviewed within three weeks. Such recommendations were formulated by the Supreme Security Council that was convoked by President Maia Sandu to discuss Moldova’s food security, IPN reports.

According to the presidential administration, the meeting centered on responsible public institutions’ reports on the ensuring of the agrifood reserves and the supply on the domestic market. It was also discussed the efficiency of the agrifood sector in general and the actions that need to be taken to ensure the proper functioning of value chains and to  ensure national products’ access to markets and shop chains. It was underlined the necessity of eliminating the effects of the dominant position obtained by unfair methods by particular irresponsible business entities and of increasing labor productivity in the agricultural sector.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry is to complete the food security strategy and the action plan that would stipulate the application, if necessary, of particular regulations on the export of raw material and food products in 2022-2023. This Ministry, together with the Ministry of Economy and the National Food Safety Agency, will review the procedures for ensuring food safety so as to eliminate the redundant elements in the process of certifying food products and national and foreign food producers.

The Competition Council will supervise the relevant markets and will investigate and promptly penalize the cases of abuse of dominant position. The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Finance will ensure the fluidity of the delivery of raw materials and food products through border crossing points, including through better cooperation with the neighboring states. Also, the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Food Safety Agency will review the procedures for ensuring the presence of refrigerated goods on the market.
