Standardization Institute ex-director warns about appropriation of WB funds

Former director of the Standardization and Metrology Institute Igor Caldare, who is a member of the Civil Society Congress, sent an open letter to Prime Minister Vlad Filat and World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Philippe Le Houerou, whereby he informs that an operation to appropriate funds of the WB Competitiveness Improvement Project will be performed on June 2, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I ask you to stop this operation as a number of warnings about possible cases of embezzlement were ignored by representatives of the World Bank Office in Moldova and Moldovan government officials,” reads the letter. According to Igor Caldare, a fraudulent scheme was worked out to steal 92.14% of the sum allocated by the World Bank for purchasing a plot. No other details are given. Igor Caldare said he is ready to cooperate in discovering the illegalities. The Government and the World Bank Office have not yet reacted to the assertions.
